Ever since he read The Lord of the Rings at age 12, Peter Martuneac has had a passion for storytelling. He began writing his own high fantasy story that same year and carried on writing for the rest of his childhood, but could not find a way to finish the story. The incomplete manuscript found a home on the top shelf of a closet, and there it remains (though he hopes to one day return to that world and see it through to the end).

At 18, he joined the US Marines, and in the deserts of Afghanistan, he finally started and completed a full-length manuscript. He wrote it entirely by hand, in the sunlight by day and in the dim, red glow of a military flashlight by night. He went on to self-publish this manuscript, a zombie fiction story, followed by two sequels and a short story prequel, and is intensely proud of those works.

Peter is now writing for Evolved Publishing, and is excited to be on this new road in his journey as an author.

Peter is married, has two amazing children and a loyal dog (who is a very good boy). Besides writing, he enjoys reading biographies, collecting coins, and getting his heart broken year after year by his favorite sports teams.

Watch for the third book in the “Ethan Chase Thriller” series, Gold of the Jaguar, to release in the spring of 2023.

Through jungles, across the ocean, and in an ancient city forgotten by time, Ethan’s loyalty to family and his code of honor will be pushed to the limit, setting him on a collision course with an old accomplice.

Former treasure hunter Ethan Chase is officially “retired” in Georgia with his wife, where he works a desk job and relaxes on the beach in his free time. Life is good, and nothing can bring Ethan back into the high-stakes craziness he left behind….

Until a Mafia boss calls Ethan one morning to tell him about his estranged father’s enormous debt, and threatens to kill his father if Ethan cannot pay it in two weeks.

Ethan is thus thrust back into a world of criminals, murderers, and opportunists. Out of options and running out of time, he uses a clue from a friend and sets off to find a legendary fortune lost in the jungles of South America.

He’s not alone in this pursuit, however, and ends up in the fight of his life.

Cagey Magee

Author, editor, teacher, virtuoso, Mr. Cagey Magee, graduated from modestly bookish, obnoxious kid to obsessive young-adult reader at around the age of eleven. He lived not far from an excellent library filled with novels that led him to faraway universes and fascinating people. He devoured them—the novels, not the people—and soon became obsessed with writing his own horror, young adult, mystery-thriller, and coming-of-age stories.

Cagey’s first novel came in at the size of two long books. He quickly learned the error of his ways when he needed to print the thing out and carry it. His current novels are more compact but still a little offbeat. He inevitably falls in love with his characters and really hates to kill them. For Cage, the near future holds infinite marvels. No one is all good or all bad. He loves them for who they are and where they go next, and hopes his readers will hang in there for the bumpy ride.

Author K.M Hodge Talks about Writing and a Current Promotion

We’re pleased to welcome to the blog today one of our thriller authors, K.M. Hodge, creator of the 4-book series “The Syndicate-Born Trilogy.” Yes, yes, we know… a trilogy doesn’t have 4 books. Well, we had originally planned to to stop this series after 3 books, and thus the trilogy, but when K.M. Hodge said, “Hey, I have an idea for a prequel that I think will be a lot of fun,” we said, “Let’s do it.” The trilogy then grew to 4 books.

First, let’s tell you about the author:

Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling author, K.M. Hodge grew up in Detroit, where she spent most of her free time weaving wild tales to spook her friends and family. These days, she lives in Texas with her husband and two energetic boys, and once again enjoys writing tales of suspense and intrigue that keep her readers up all night. Her stories, which focus on women’s issues, friendship, addiction, regrets and second chances, will stay with you long after you finish them. When she isn’t writing or being an agent of social change she watches old X-files episodes, does yoga, streams Detroit Tigers games, and binges on Netflix with her husband. K.M. Hodge truly enjoys hearing from her readers, so don’t be shy about dropping her an email or say hit on social media.

Third, let’s talk a little with K.M. Hodge:

QUESTION: When did you know you wanted to write a book?
Twenty years ago, I took on the challenge to write a novel. I got about a fourth of the way through writing the story, Red on the Run, before life happened and I stopped writing. I got married, worked full-time, and became a mom to two beautiful boys. Then, in October 2014, a friend challenged me to finish the novel during the National Write a Novel in a Month (NanoWriMo). I accepted her challenge and finished the novel at last! Another friend inspired me to self-publish the book, and in March 2015, I took the plunge. In August of that year, I signed the series with Evolved Publishing, which published the second edition in Fall 2016. In winter of 2016, I received the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for Thrillers. “The Syndicate-Born Trilogy” series currently has three additional books: Black and White Truth, True Blue Son, and The Sally Ride Chronicle.

QUESTION: How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Oh so much! I did everything wrong the first time. I didn’t outline, the cover sucked, I didn’t have it professionally edited, and I rushed publication. It’s almost a “write” of passage for most authors to go through this when they’re first starting off. Three years later, I feel as though I am finally settling into my skin and writing to industry standards. I try and look at it all with a beginner’s mindset, because there will always be things to learn and improve upon.

QUESTION: What are your top five favorite books?
1. The Stand by Stephen King — I loved the characterization and suspenseful storytelling.
2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen — …for its strong female characters.
3. Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver — I loved its varying points of view, and how each character had such a distinct voice.
4. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott — …for its exposition and characterizations.
5. Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood — I love everything Atwood has written. She’s clever and witty, and employs snappy dialogue. I enjoyed this book most of all for its story within a story. She also finds ways to bring environmental and women’s issues to the forefront in truly creative ways.

QUESTION: What are your future projects, if any?
I’m working on a 1970’s romantic thriller that will come out at the end of the year in the “Love Under Fire” boxed set. I’m also working on a flash fiction piece for a literary magazine, about one of my “The Syndicate-Born Trilogy” characters, Sally Ride.

QUESTION: Since you write thrillers, what are the Top 10 internet searches you’ve done for book research?
1. Gunshot complications that kill you weeks after being shot.
2. Treatment of sex addiction
3. Where to stab someone so they don’t die
4. What kind of gun and bullets to use to limit forensic evidence
5. Body farms
6. Kidney transplants with 3D printed organs and stem cells
7. Sex trafficking in the US
8. The history of FBI profiling
9. Culture and linguistics of the 70’s
10. Video footage of 9/11

In closing:

Hmmm… some of those searches sound interesting. Well, we hope you enjoyed discovering this talented author and her work, and that you’ll take advantage of the $0.99 eBook Sale on Red on the Run, which lasts the full months of June and July. If you’re a KindleUnlimited subscriber, you can download all 4 books in this series free.

I’m a freelance writer and filmmaker, born in 1975 in The Gong, who now lives in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia with my wife and two sons.

I used to make my own mystery books in the fourth grade by typing them out on an old Olivetti, and I drew my first five-fingered human being when I was four years old.

In 2004, I pitched a comic series to Image Comics, and I contributed cartoons and designed a cover for the Litmus Journal of Melbourne in 2007.

I worked with the Victims of Crime department in Sydney, rubbing shoulders with ex-cons and stand over men, and sought restitution for their victims.

In 2014, I founded a production company, Glitchfilms, alongside my producing partner. In 2015, I wrote and directed an independent horror film, The Lights, which was released in selected cinemas. I self-published the tie-in, behind-the-scenes eBook, Dark Light: How to Get Your Horror Film into Cinemas.

I write every day and try to put some of myself into my writing. My passion is crime fiction, and my favourite authors include Karin Slaughter and Michael Robotham. I also love graphic novels by Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison.

A.K. KUYKENDALL was born in Albany, Georgia, but grew up as a military brat on the Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), and later at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He is married to Magdiel Kuykendall (the love of his life) and, together, they are the proud parents of three sons—Felix, Kal-El, and Jor-El—two of whom are legally named after the Kryptonian House of El due to the author’s affinity for the story of Superman. He’s a corporate executive chef by trade, but his true passion in life is writing thought-provoking novels that blend the concepts of fact and fiction.

His writing career has been heavily inspired and influenced by Rod Serling and his classic ‘60s television series, The Twilight Zone, and by The Mercury Theatre’s October 30, 1938 broadcast of “The War of the Worlds” over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio. He was then and still is wholly enthralled with the way these two examples showcased ordinary people in extraordinary situations. He especially loved the remarkable plot twists common to The Twilight Zone stories, and the fright manifested by H.G. Wells.

When he’s not writing, he finds comfort in heading out to the golf course with his son and golf partner, Jor-El, where they altogether embarrass themselves on the fairway. He both creates and resides in Ruskin, Florida.
