CIBA award winner Jack Cullen is a veteran, attorney, and police captain. An amateur barstool philosopher, he rarely tells his stories the same way twice.

Jack lives in New England with his family and a small horde of pets. His various adventures include waking up in the wrong country, being chased by jackals in Pakistan, floating through the Mayan underworld in an inner tube, and almost being run over by a supertanker while sailing across the Gulf of Mexico. When not writing, he can be found traveling around in a 1956 Willys Wagon called The Professor.

I’m married in a blended family with 9 children and 10 grandchildren (so far). I consider myself over-educated with a Bachelors, 3 masters and a doctorate; however, the Master’s in Early European history and minor in Native American history are my favorite. I like to use famous battles from history in my writing.

I grew up in Oregon, where I first met my wife, but as an Army brat and then in the Air Force myself, I’ve moved many places and traveled much of the world.

I work in IT for my day job but have always been enthusiastic about fantasy fiction. My father was a hardcore science fiction reader before his passing, but he used to share boxes of books with my wife when we were first dating. He encouraged me to read by sharing books with me, but I was more interested in sci-fi/fantasy rather than straight Science Fiction. My wife is still a hardcore science fiction reader today, so she helps me out with that part of my stories.

In seventh grade, Mrs. Trader inspired me both as a writer and a teacher. In her class, I learned I loved to write and that my classmates liked to hear my stories. Her spirited students engaged in dramatic performances, hands-on projects, and lively discussions—nothing like the poor subdued souls across the hall, managed by the teacher with long green eyes. So Mrs. Trader was my model when I started a school and set aside my writing—that is, until it dawned on me that tribes of children have loved learning by listening to stories for thousands of years. So I wrote about a million words that speak to head and heart, which I am still reading to my child listeners. But now I’m writing stories, my second million words, to speak to the heads and hearts of adult readers and listeners, and hoping my classmates will like them.

Watch for The Timeline, Book 5 of the “New Earth Chronicles,” to release on 3 October 2022.

Past the stargate, Captain Jack Merrick welcomes the sight of beautiful Gaia Earth, but the starship Stella Lumina cruises a gray, bleak world that is anything but welcoming.

When Jack conferred with Moira and Zeb, recently rescued from a Dark Planet, he didn’t expect to be returning them to a wall-enclosed cell of forced labor. In this timeline, cells like the one he gazes upon near Washington D.C. are all over the planet. Citizens filled with nanobots walk the streets like robots, while some madman claiming to be the aspiring god of Earth relentlessly rains down poisons lethal to living systems.

Moira and Zeb reveal to Jack that their kidnapped children are among the trafficked children held in tunnels beneath the streets of Washington, and he knows Stella Lumina and her crew must remain in this dismal timeline to help rescue them.

A.K. KUYKENDALL was born in Albany, Georgia, but grew up as a military brat on the Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), and later at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He is married to Magdiel Kuykendall (the love of his life) and, together, they are the proud parents of three sons—Felix, Kal-El, and Jor-El—two of whom are legally named after the Kryptonian House of El due to the author’s affinity for the story of Superman. He’s a corporate executive chef by trade, but his true passion in life is writing thought-provoking novels that blend the concepts of fact and fiction.

His writing career has been heavily inspired and influenced by Rod Serling and his classic ‘60s television series, The Twilight Zone, and by The Mercury Theatre’s October 30, 1938 broadcast of “The War of the Worlds” over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio. He was then and still is wholly enthralled with the way these two examples showcased ordinary people in extraordinary situations. He especially loved the remarkable plot twists common to The Twilight Zone stories, and the fright manifested by H.G. Wells.

When he’s not writing, he finds comfort in heading out to the golf course with his son and golf partner, Jor-El, where they altogether embarrass themselves on the fairway. He both creates and resides in Ruskin, Florida.
