Born in the small town of Colac in the Otway Ranges of Victoria, Australia, Geoff moved his family to Lexington Virginia in 1980. In his capacity as a textile chemist and inventor of a computerized printing machine, he worked in Glasgow, VA for 15 years before moving to Roanoke Virginia. He brought a wife and 3 boys to the US, and remarried in 1993, adding four stepdaughters to the family. He’s been active in Toastmasters for 18 years, and has been teaching a self-designed public speaking course to high school-aged students twice per year for the past 9 years.
For more than 30 years, he listened to sweet southern belles saying, “I just love the way you talk”, and begging him to do so. In his early seventies, approaching retirement, he decided to give audio voice recording a shot, and in the past 3 years has released 50 audiobooks. Topics vary from thriller to romance, and more than 30% are from Australian authors.
Geoff grew up loving reading, and recording; saving his pocket money to buy an early reel-to-reel tape recorder. He was a mad fan of the British comedy, The Goon Show, which exposed him to an incredible collection of audio voices from Harry Secombe, Spike Milligan, and Peter Sellers. He diverged into textile dyeing for the next 50 years, until now, when he has returned to his true love, recording, reading, experiencing.
Geoff truly “lives” in the books he narrates, which means he loves doing it. As he prepares for retirement (he still works as a textile chemist 40 hrs per week), he looks forward to being able to continue developing and honing his skills as a narrator.
