Watch for Memoirs of a Transferable Soul, a literary medical thriller, to release on May 6, 2019.

Death is his lifeline, but is this any way to live? He’s an ordinary man, but he tells an extraordinary tale.

An unexpected combination of experimental medication and meandering contemplation opens a door through which his disembodied soul wanders, temporarily taking residence where other souls have departed. Upon his return ‘home’ each time, his terminal mystery illness wanes, while his transcendent abilities increase.

Yet the price is steep, and harrowing, as the treatments wear off quickly and the agonizing symptoms return. For continuing survival, and to maintain his revived health and newfound strength, he must continually find, cultivate, and court new terminal partners for his reluctant dance with death. Secrecy becomes imperative, for this special talent is one danse macabre that civilized society would abhor.

NOTE FROM EDITOR: This memoir is a work of fiction. Character names have been changed to respect and honor the dead. The narrator’s name has been withheld to protect the living. As to how much of the story is true, or embellished, that is for the reader to decide.

EVOLVED PUBLISHING PRESENTS the story of a defeated, dying man who discovers a secret, shocking talent that may help him survive, restore hope, find love, and even get tantalizing glimpses into the mysteries beyond.

J.P. Barnett grew up in a tiny Texas town where the list of possible vocations failed to include published author. In second grade, he worked harder than any other student to deliver a story about a tiger cub who singlehandedly saved the U.S. Military, earning him a shiny gold star and a lifelong appreciation of telling a good story.

Fast forwarding through decades of schooling and a career as a software engineer, J.P. Barnett stepped away from it all to get back to his first real passion. Years of sitting at a keyboard gifted him with some benefit, though, including blazing fast typing hands and a full tank of creativity.

As a child, J.P. consumed any book he could get his hands on. The likes of Stephen King, Michael Crichton, and Dean Koontz paved the bookshelves of his childhood, providing a plethora of fantastical and terrifying tales that he read way too early in life. Though the effect these books had on his psyche could be called into question, these masters of storytelling managed to warp his mind in just the perfect way to spin a fun yarn or two.

J.P. currently resides in San Antonio with his wife and hellion of a cat, both of whom look at him dubiously with some frequency.

Melsa M. Manton grew up roaming the mountains of Western North Carolina. An early education of Aliens, Predator, Terminator, and Stephen King led to a love of science fiction and she began writing as soon as her fine motor skills allowed.

She studied International Affairs in Washington D.C. with the intention of diving into the political realm, but ended up diving into the ocean instead. An avid scuba diver, she spent seven summers sailing and teaching diving worldwide. For the next ten years, the wanderlust took her all over the world, from Russia to Tasmania, with many places in between, and eventually set her on a path of holistic medicine. She runs Blue Desert Hale, a wellness center and Cranio Sacral Therapy school, in the mountains of New Mexico.

Her life path has morphed considerably over the years, but there is one thing she has done consistently through it all. To write is to live.

Melsa’s personal motto: DREAM BIG OR DIE.

Watch for the first book of the “Gemination” sci-fi/fantasy thriller series, Hear No More, to release in the spring of 2019.

Big Brother is watching, but he’s quite the elusive doppelgänger, and he’s not the only one watching.

In present day Washington D.C., twenty-seven-year old Leyla Stone works as an agent for the Sedition Underground, a clandestine organization that acts as International 911, stopping injustices before the public is aware of them. When her partner is killed on what turns out to be an unauthorized assignment, she’s cast out from the Sedition. Weeks later, the enigma of all enigmas, Devlin Vail, rescues her from what he calls Geminates, genetically identical, yet superior, clones created in a radical genome endeavor initiated by an international conglomerate called the Faction. Vail is a defective of the project.

It is soon apparent that Stone is smack in the middle of a secret and relentless war between her former employer and new enemy. However, the enemy isn’t new—she only has no memory of them. She remembers every waking moment of her life…but not of what happens in the moments between dreaming and waking. A Sedition experiment fractured her propensity toward dissociative identity disorder into the perfect alter-ego assassin. This entity, Eva Fox, wakes when Stone goes to sleep, and she has her own instructions; end Gemination, disable the Faction. But after her partner’s death, Fox goes dark. Stone must follow the trail of breadcrumbs left by her missing counterpart and the cryptic guidance of her new ally to stop the Faction from launching a covert war against free will. What Stone does not realize is that the Faction is hunting her for more than just retaliation—they want her mind.

The “Gemination” series combines the amnesiac espionage of The Bourne Identity with the psychological unraveling of The Three Faces of Eve, set on the genetically manipulated stage of Brave New World. Frontier nanotech and a hint of the supernatural interlace for some truly twisted tradecraft.

Briefly….

I am a professional writer, as well as a full-time cook, cleaner, chauffeur, and work-at-home single Dad for three amazing teenagers. Born in Texas and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, I emigrated to Israel only months before the first Gulf War, following graduation from Indiana University in 1990. In 1996, I was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces, where I served for 12 years as a Reserves Combat Medic. Since 2002, I’ve worked as an independent marketing writer, copywriter and consultant.

More than You Asked for….

I am a writer by nature. It’s always been how I express myself best. I’ve been writing stories, letters, journals, songs, and poems since I could pick up a pencil, but it took me 20-odd years to figure out that I could get paid for it. Call me slow.

After completing my BA at Indiana University – during the course of which I also studied at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Haifa University – I emigrated to Israel only months before the first Gulf War, in August 1990. In 1998, I was married to the wonderful woman who changed my life for the better in so many ways, and in 2001, only a month after the 9/11 attacks, my son was born, followed by my twin daughters in 2004. In late 2017, two weeks before my 50th birthday, my wife passed away after giving cancer one hell of a fight.

Since 2002, I’ve run SDG Communications, a successful marketing consultancy serving clients in Israel and abroad.
