My love for writing started while co-authoring a Ninja Turtles comic in kindergarten. Dragonlance and Stephen King influenced my middle years, and then Orson Scott Card and the Dune Prequels added Science Fiction to my literary palate. After college, insecurity and a lack of community led to a few years off from writing, but then I discovered NaNoWriMo and podcasts. These helped me write and rewrite what became two trunked novels, but also put me firmly in the path of realizing my dream.Scavenger: Evolution last March. It’s a sand-divers in the apocalypse story of love and terror set in Hugh Howey’s world of Sand (with his permission). The audiobook is nearly complete, and the sequel will come out next summer.

My short story credits include “The Bomb in the President’s Bathroom,” an Amish science fiction thriller set in the world of Michael Bunker’s Pennsylvania, and published in the anthology, Tales from Pennsylvania; “Staring Into,” a time-travel love story published in Masters of Time; and “Marigold Bloom,” an as-yet published story in a redshirts-themed anthology, Expendable Assets, which will donate proceeds to The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

My first Evolved Publishing novel is a magical thriller set in the rift between Iowa and the Abyss, inspired by equal parts of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series and The Stand.

I am also a former Executive Producer for the Hugo-Nominated podcast, Adventures in SciFi Publishing, and have reviewed books for them and SF Signal.

K.M. Hodge grew up in Detroit, where she spent most of her free time weaving wild tales to spook her friends and family. These days, she lives in Texas with her husband and two energetic boys, and once again enjoys writing tales of suspense and intrigue that keep her readers up all night. Her stories, which focus on women’s issues, friendship, addiction, regrets and second chances, will stay with you long after you finish them.

When she isn’t writing or being an agent of social change, she reads Independent graphic novels, watches old X-files episodes, streams Detroit Tigers games and binges on Netflix with her husband.

She enjoys hearing from her readers, so don’t be shy about dropping her a line.

I’ve adventured in foreign worlds my whole life, and I’ve even put some down on paper. I enjoy adding color to projects, making a place pop off the paper and inks. I’m interested in how visual design and illustration collides to create objects that define and live inside themselves. I’ve fallen in love with maps and decorative work, and it’s easy to draw from my background as a concept artist for game studios to create exciting renderings.

I spend much of my free time playing tabletop RPGs and spinning living narratives. In between games, I’m researching history and culture and creating game props and images for the games I run and play in.

I caught the writing bug early on in elementary school after my teacher showed me how to make my own book. Excited by this idea, I ran home and made my first picture book on notebook paper and bound with yarn. I majored in creative writing at the University of Southern California, and entered the world of editing through educational publishing while working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

I love getting lost in a great story, whether it be literary, science fiction, or coming-of-age. In critique groups and workshops, I’ve had the privilege of reading works-in-progress and being a part of a great story from its inception through revisions and beyond. If I can ever help an author along in their process, then I consider that a success for both of us.

When I’m not writing or reading, I’m usually at a concert, on the beach, traveling, or spoiling my two cats. When I am reading, I’m usually reading dystopian novels, young adult, or a literary classic.
