“From the Beginning” shows no drop-off from the quality of the first two books of the Uncommon Bonds series. Lotte and Eric have grown up a little, and so has their relationship, as another adventure unfolds that simultaneously strains and strengthens their bond. With new characters added to the plot, Book 3 strikes the right balance of maintaining the continuity of the series while keeping it fresh and full of surprises. I love that the mythical monsters are true to mythology throughout the series. I was in a museum recently saw artifacts on display depicting the gods and stories in the books – a testament to the research behind Noland’s writing. Another reviewer described Noland’s battle scenes as “cinematic.” I definitely agree – you can visualize the scene and feel the powerful moments. Anyone who likes page-turner thrillers with plenty of action and thoughtful character development will love the Uncommon Bonds series, and Book 3 delivers.
