    I would love to say that from the second I could use my fingers, I began to write, but I can’t. Sure there were times through my life when writing surfaced and fell away, but the truth is, I couldn’t even read all that well through most of my teens. Then one day, my father gave me a copy of The Stand by Stephen King, and even though it took me a year to finish, I did it. This experience changed my life. From that point, I strove to become the best reader and writer I could be. I was driven by an unbelievable passion to become a writer, and here I am. I truly started from the bottom and worked hard to become who I am now. I am a believer in the words. Reading saved my life. Writing made my life.

      After reading this saga, I would say that this is America’s answer to Harry Potter. I was very impressed with this author’s unique ideas for a different world. It is very well written plus an amazing story line. Also, I could see how kids could get addicted to these characters. Lastly, someone needs to make a movie trilogy out of this saga. If done the right way, this would probably do as well as Harry Potter, if not better. If you have kids, they would love this series! Enjoy. ~ Gary O’Yeah

      Madcap, the newest addition to the underground kingdom of Balderdash, lay upon the tomb that had once held the shaman. Yellow, brown, and red motley covered his body. He wore emerald green tights, and his ruffled sleeves ballooned out before meeting at white cuffs. The front of his blue velvet shoes curled like pigtails, and atop his head rested a coxcomb hat with three points—two drooping toward either shoulder and one arching up from the center of his head. A rusty bell dangled from each end.

      The jester’s smooth, pale skin made him look like a porcelain doll. Two long brows swooped above his eyes, and permanent lines had been etched into his cheeks from a lifetime of laughter. His chin curved down like a half moon, ending at a dimpled point.

      The shaman sat cross-legged at the end of the tomb. Her hair cascaded over her shoulders in long, white waves and her ears swooped up and back like sharp blades. The two Mana Marks—birthmarks possessed by all
