~~~
Steven Cabbott recently started seeing demons, even had to fight a few. Maybe it goes all the way back to his bat-shit-crazy mother, who killed his father when Steven was young, claiming his dad was a demon. Maybe she wasn’t so nuts, after all.
When Steven returns home to uncover the truth about his past, an old flame asks for his help. A mysterious cult has kidnapped her teenaged daughter, and he may be the only chance she has to get her back.
It seems like a simple case, but nothing comes easy in the fight between light and darkness. Heaven and hell are fighting over Steven’s services. Even worse, a fallen angel wants an unhealthy romantic relationship with him, and just won’t take no for an answer. Maybe. Maybe not. These days, Steven Cabbott isn’t sure of anything.
EVOLVED PUBLISHING PRESENTS an intriguing, thrilling look inside the great battle between good and evil, possibly leading to the End of Days, with the first book in the multiple award-winning “A Nephilim Thriller” series of supernatural thrillers.
D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review, says, “Readers who enjoy an injection of the supernatural rather than a story based entirely on otherworldly forces will appreciate just the right blend of paranormal tension and intrigue that bring this thriller to life.... [A] vivid, winning tale of a former couple’s confrontation with themselves, each other, and a wider-ranging threat that grabs the reader from the beginning and proves nearly impossible to put down. Thriller audiences will find Devil’s Den more than a notch above others in the genre.” [Pick of the Month – September 2018]
About the Author
EDITOR: In addition to a career as a newspaper editor, publisher, and manager, Robb Grindstaff has written fiction most of his life. The newspaper biz has taken him and his family from Phoenix, Arizona, to small towns in North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin, from seven years in Washington, D.C., to five years in Asia. Born and raised a small-town kid, he's as comfortable in Tokyo or Tuna, Texas. The variety of places he's lived and visited serve as settings for the characters who invade his head. His novels are probably best classified as contemporary southern lit, and he's had more than a dozen short stories published in a wide array of genres. His articles on the craft of fiction writing have appeared in various writer magazines and websites, and one of his seminars was presented at the Sydney (Australia) Writers Festival. He also has taught writing courses for the Romance Writers of America, Romance Writers of Australia, and Savvy Authors. Robb retired from the newspaper business in the summer of 2020 to write and edit fiction full time.
EDITOR: I love reading. Books have always been a part of my environment and my life. I taught English Literature for many years and my favorite part was watching students find their voice in writing. I edited at Weekly Reader for about a year prior to taking time off to have children. They are now writing their own stories, and reading as many books as their mama! I manage an independent bookstore in Chappaqua, New York called Scattered Books, which is my second home. I travel often with my family, and friends, and always make sure I find the bookstores wherever we go.
About the author
Jeff Altabef lives in New York with his wife, two daughters, and Charlie the dog. He spends time volunteering at the writing center in the local community college. After years of being accused of "telling stories," he thought he would make it official. He writes in both the thriller and young adult genres. Fourteenth Colony, a political thriller, was his debut novel. Shatter Point, a thriller, published by Evolved Publishing was his second novel. It won the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for Best Thriller, Fall 2014.
Jeff's first Young Adult novel, Wind Catcher: A Chosen Novel, is being published on March 23rd by Evolved Publishing. He's very happy and proud that his co-author is his teenaged daughter, Erynn Altabef. Wind Catcher has won the 2015 Readers' Favorite Gold Medal for Coming of Age Novels, the 2015 Beverly Hills Book Award for Best YA Fiction and a Mom's Choice Award.
As an avid Knicks fan, Jeff is prone to long periods of melancholy during hoops season. Jeff has a column on The Examiner focused on writing and a blog designed to encourage writing by those who like telling stories.
I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and I voluntarily leave my review.
Strong, likeable and well drawn characters. The paranormal component just adds to the tautly woven intrigue, suspense and the unfolding mystery. Some really unexpected twists, well handled.
Very much looking forward to seeing where this series goes.
I received an eARC of this book and have no hesitation in writing a review; it's a ripper of a read!
The world, that Jeff Altabef has built, is dark and sinister, only fleeting moments of hope. Steven joined the army after his mother killed his father and claimed he was a demon. Now, 16 years later, Steven sees demons and the dark side tempts him.
It's been two weeks, six days, and seven hours since I last killed someone. Pity, I really wanted to reach three weeks.
(Loc 253 Kindle edition)
Now Steven is back, trying to track down his mother and find out the truth about his father. One text message from a person he left behind sixteen years ago changes his search into a rescue mission. A teenage girl has gone missing and he has to find her before it is too late. When the truth behind her disappearance is slowly revealed Steven realizes that the battle between good and evil is fought on all levels and all the bets are off.
Devil's Den is a thriller combined with paranormal and dystopian and maybe even some apocalyptical aspects too. It may sound like a lot, but it is all perfectly weaved into an amazing story. From the first page until the very last, Devil's Den has a tight hold of the reader and there's no other choice than keep reading. Putting the book down is simply not an option.
Steven is a killer. He worked with an organization who did very bad things. Now he feels he has no redemption. But could he be wrong?? This turns out to be a battle between good and evil. And his mother is right in the middle of it. Can he rescue Kate's kid and save himself??
It's an interesting story set in a time years from now, where the one percent own everything and everyone else lives in squalor. I found it interesting and sad. But I likes the story and the battle has just begun. Lucifer wants Steven. Can he resist the temptation??
Read on my friends
